Exhaust Extraction

Background

The Fire Departments of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, Gothenburg and Malmö (the second and third largest cities in Sweden).

The Problem

The Fire Department Facility and Environmental Managers identified the hazard and danger of diesel exhaust gases in the working and living area of the firemen. The result of the analysis proved that during a start up of normally three fire trucks with cold engines, the engine hall was filled with diesel gases. The diesel particles were spread in the engine hall, on the vehicles, on other equipment and on the firemen's clothing. The diesel gases traveled around the building into the living areas.

The exhaust pipe, located at the side of the vehicle, puts out diesel exhaust directly at the firemen who are working with the vehicle's equipment.

The Solution

To obtain a diesel exhaust free environment for the fire men, both inside and outside the station, a solution with the PlymoVent Vertical Stack Rail - VSR was tested, approved and selected. With the VSR system the fire truck's exhaust pipe is modified to a vertical position and, with a cone adapter, the rail catches the exhaust pipe when the vehicle enters the station. The system is fully automatic, both connection and disconnection of the exhaust pipe without any manual handling of hoses. Some applications are back-in and some are drive through, both with the PlymoVent VSR system.

At the Ambulances and the Fire Chiefs' vehicles, which are smaller vehicles with low level exhaust pipe, the PlymoVent Sliding Balancer Track System, SBT, was selected.
At a few stations the Fire Department have ambulances in tandem, two ambulances positioned after the other, and in this application the PlymoVent Straight Rail System, STR, was selected. The robust STR system with in built hydraulic absorber, takes the high speed and the kinetic energy from the running vehicles with perfect continuity.

The Application/Solution

  • 9 pcs of SER-650-100 - Spring operated exhaust reels for the brake tester and engine repair.

  • 1 pc of AU-150 - Emission test extractor for the gas analyser.

  • 2 pcs of FM-3540 - Flex-Max arms for the body work shop area.

The PlymoVent equipment fits into the workshop nicely and whenever Nissan starts an operation related to hazardous fumes and gases there is a PlymoVent extractor available. The PlymoVent nozzles and adapters fits very well to the vehicles.

Nissan Group has paid a lot of attention to this workshop because of the fact that Nissan wants to have a corporate image as far as possible, including the equipment.

Whether the application is large or small, Trican Filtration Group can supply you with what is best for your budget and your requirements. Let us offer our expertise and save you maintenance costs on your equipment and extend your indoor air quality.
